ABSTRACT

The Shalom dream became a reality in 1994 and continues to provide education to hundreds of students each year. The Shalom dream is to raise individuals who will create and transform new knowledge and technologies into useful products, services and processes for national and global markets. Locally, Shalom became a model for academies in Nigerian cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Enugu. A Nigerian Igbo couple, who prefer to be addressed as Vicky Onu and Willy Onu, they were raised participating in Igbo education and Western education systems. Living in Lagos, Nigeria's largest metropolis, Vicky understood the need for cross-cultural communication at an early age. As a result, Willy and Vicky's generation benefited from a cultural context where even Western educated children were expected to fully participate in Igbo education processes and therefore were provided comparatively more access to Igbo knowledge than contemporary Western-educated Igbo children.
