ABSTRACT
As indicated in the previous chapter, the goal of economic sustainability cannot be attained without also ensuring the sustainability of KN. The dependency of economic sustainability on KN sustainability is given by the fact that the economy does not function in isolation from the natural environment from where the resources and energy come and where waste products are exported and assimilated. If KN sustainability must coexist for economic sustainability, then the overall system must be one that permits the identification of an equilibrium between KN and the economy.
