ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and practices of Latin American multinational enterprises’ (MNE) subsidiaries to draw implications for development studies research. The chapter proposes an analytical framework to identify patterns on how MNEs understand and implement CSR in Latin America. The analytical framework is structured according to the central elements featured in the literature on CSR. The analysis portraits MNEs as distant from their Latin American communities in contrast to what local companies inform. To include the participation of businesses in development, there is a need for agreements between companies, communities, governments, and society as a whole.
