ABSTRACT

This chapter offers insight into student teachers' experiences with lesson planning during school-based placements, and then looks at some issues associated with lesson planning. It discusses the key components of a good lesson plan to enable mentor to advise and guide a beginning physical education teacher through the intricacies and complexities of effective lesson planning. Quite a lot of essential information is included at the beginning of most lesson planning templates. If a beginning teacher understands the reasons for including this specific essential information, they can see its importance and relevance. There must be a clear relationship between a learning objective and the associated outcome as a beginning teacher predicts pupils' responses to the learning objectives. The learning outcomes are a key source of evidence for a beginning teacher to use to demonstrate learning has taken place. Outcomes should generally be observable and measurable.
