ABSTRACT

A Short Stress Evaluation Tool (ASSET) is a well-established questionnaire examining occupational stress upon which the author bases discussions throughout this book concerning the concept of stress and the development of resilience. Experiencing one or more of these negative symptoms does not mean that a person's well-being is in danger. The problem arises when such symptoms are frequent and present for a prolonged period of time, when a person chooses to neglect them rather than giving them the necessary attention, thus jeopardizing the person's well-being and the well-being of his loved ones. The majority of the population devotes approximately half of their waking life at work, and hence, the need to examine the impact of occupational stressors on the physical and psychological well-being of employees is mandatory. In this chapter the author has introduced us to the costs of stress, both in terms of an individual's health and also in terms of financial costs for the organizations and the nations.
