ABSTRACT

The idea of the article is to assess the use of satellite navigation systems in cases when aircraft approach aerodromes and heliports in the Slovak Republic. It is advantageous to use systems that do not need ground equipment located within the airport, for the activities with regard to the potential use of existing navigation systems for the non-precision approach procedures, approach with vertical guidance and precision approach of airplanes and helicopters at a small airport, or precision approach of helicopters to an appropriate landing area of the required dimensions—Final Approach and Take-Off area (FATO). The article further describes the general principles of construction of approach procedures and options for visualization and qualified estimation of instrument approach using geographical information systems.
