ABSTRACT

The historian Nicola Spakowski assesses for this book the epistemological implications of global historiography today. She considers: the relationship between area expertise and the ‘global turn’; the interpretation of interconnectivity as globality (or otherwise); the relative unity of regions (with East Asia as an example); the options of intercultural transfer studies versus global views of culture; and the problem of Eurocentrism as a background for global studies.
