ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the long-term effects on business leaders of actually conducting a choir. The intervention consisted of several workshops where each of the members of a management team were invited to lead a semi-professional choir. The sessions exploited the condensed nature of the musical leadership act, where the impact of each participant was immediately observable and audible and could be discussed by the group. The choir functioned as a uniquely effective mirror in which the participants could see themselves as leaders. Through this intervention, the participants learned to integrate better with the team by balancing their own power with their trust in the singers.
