ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author shares The Four Agreements with all of the clients. The Four Agreements is a small book with a big impact. This is true not only for individuals, but for couples and families, as well. Written by Don Miguel Ruiz, this book utilizes four agreements that can not only change lives, but also change relationships. And in a day and age where, according to the American Psychological Association (2017), 40–50% of marriages end in divorce, conselor could certainly use some help. Together, The Four Agreements and equine therapy can help heal broken relationships and build a solid foundation for new ones. The Four Agreements are: Be impeccable with counselor' word, Don't take anything personally, Don't make assumptions, Always do counselor' best. The goal of using The Four Agreements with couples and families is to help clients gain more self-awareness, increase self-regulation, and build connection and compassion for themselves and each other.
