ABSTRACT

In this work, it was analytically simulated different stages of an Endodontic-Periodontal (EP) lesion in order to study the biomechanical effects of these lesions on the tooth and its surroundings. For this study it was used the Finite Element Method (FEM), one of the most established numerical methods, as well as two of the flexible interpolation meshless methods: the Radial Point Interpolation Method (RPIM) and the Natural Neighbour Radial Point Interpolation Method (NNRPIM). Four distinct numerical models of the premolar tooth were constructed, depicting a healthy tooth and three different stages of the evolution from primary endodontic lesion into an EP lesion. For each of the numerical analysis it was obtained the Von Mises stress field on each of the models and compared between them.
