ABSTRACT

The rehabilitation of an atrophic maxilla may become a challenge for oral and maxillofacial surgeon, in particular, when the solution is reduced to Zygomatic Implants (ZIs). Despite the high survival rates of ZIs, some biological complications have been reported. IL-1 gene polymorphisms were often related with noninfectious periimplant bone loss. The IL1RN gene has been connected with periim-plantitis and with several inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. This work aimed to present a case of delayed dermal biologic response with ZIs in a patient with a positive genotype for IL1RN gene polymorphism. So, the present authors hypothesized that IL1RN gene expression (positive polymorphism) may be related with dermal response. Indeed, more studies are needed to evaluate the genetic role on zygomatic biological complications.
