ABSTRACT

Career decisions are complex and, as such, it is no wonder that people sometimes need to seek the support of a career coach to help them to make the right choices. The chapter begins with an overview of the career decision-making process, drawing on a range of theoretical ideas and empirical evidence. This is followed by an outline of some of the key challenges that people face when trying to negotiate their career paths and some evidence of the kind of people who are most likely to find career decisions difficult. The chapter ends with an explanation of how the techniques offered in the book can help career coaches to support clients facing these challenges.
