ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the occupational courses at the first-degree level using analysed empirical data from participants with expertise in the areas of accounting and dental hygiene. It starts with an introduction to map out the area of study and focuses on the acquisition of knowhow that discusses the sources and types of knowledge necessary for teachers/deliverers to facilitate their teaching activities. The chapter examines how the recontextualized disciplinary know-how is used regarding teaching and occupational practices and eventually, how they may be combined to create an Integrated Applied Recontextualization (IAR) process to offer the user possible choices of teaching strategies/approaches to employ in her/his teaching setting. One should not forget that as part of the PR or OR processes, work knowledge can also have an influence. OP12, a male teacher, teaching full-time in an FE college remarked earlier that his institution considered smart boards as de rigueur to teaching.
