ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 explores service provision and harm reduction interventions for people who use drugs, both in Sweden and, for comparative purposes, to some extent internationally. The chapter begins with an overview of what harm reduction involves, and why harm reduction is imperative if the human rights and health of people who use drugs are to be prioritised. Discussion then moves on to the opposition that many Swedish policy makers and service providers have to harm reduction interventions for people who use drugs. The chapter then explores which services are (and are not) available for people who use drugs in Sweden.
