ABSTRACT

Dr. Ben Highland drove home, gratified by the audience's positive reaction to his presentation. This chapter explains the six steps to guide his discussion. Step 1 was selecting a care experience; step 2: establishing a care experience guiding council; step 3: shadowing patients and families to co-design the care experience; it enables the Working Group to understand the current state of the trauma care experience. Step 4 is expanding the guiding council into the working group. Step 5: creating the shared vision of the ideal story; allows Working Group members to envision the ideal state; and step 6: forming project teams to close the gaps between current and ideal. This construct is not only elegant, but it promotes learning by being self-reinforcing.
