ABSTRACT

Communication is instantaneous, and so is miscommunication. Once an electronic message has gone out, it is very difficult to retrieve it from the four corners of the Earth. Even technology enhances communication more than it disables it. Students using technology gain the same kind of efficiency at communicating with a few clicks of a mouse. An effective communicator reaches out to his or her audience, touches their hearts, and animates their brains in writing and in the spoken word. An effective communicator creates a common understanding by choosing powerful vocabulary to convey powerful meaning. The future of our society depends on students leaving our schools as college- and career-ready communicators.
