ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the meeting with other clients at OZ and hearing about their stories. It focuses on occupational and speech and language assessments. During the author's two-day assessment at OZ, what he found most calming was that he could let the facade drop. In a sincere environment, he felt that he could revert back to his naturally inquisitive nature. When there was a break in the sessions, he spoke to some of the clients of the centre to try and get unofficial feedback on OZ. Consistency was a key feature he was to experience at OZ. What struck him when he spoke to the clients was that they were remarkably steady and not prone to erratic emotions or behaviour. In particular, he noted that the peace with their situation could lead to more joyful situations. A clue to the different views of life after brain injury held by the staff at OZ was particular methodology of his assessment.
