ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how language and words can change perception and progress the journey of acceptance. It explores how semantics can change emotional state and the importance of this in healing. During the authors visit to OZ, he took particular note of their use of words. They used language that implied that things would get better and were careful not to say anything which might imply something negative. Following his visit to OZ, he witnessed the real-world application of their use of semantics. To explain where his love affair with language began, it was with another little "adventure". Through use of what he thought of was his rather extensive and varied vocabulary, he then started to develop a focus on semantics, which was only heightened by his subject of choice in university, law. He felt that "crash" would be a more neutral term and a more objective way of describing the event.
