ABSTRACT

If you have seen the film Heartland then you already know part of Elinore Pruitt Stewart's story. She wanted a homestead for herself and her daughter, so she answered a newspaper ad and went to work for Clyde Stewart on his homestead near Burnt Fork, Wyoming. In addition to working for Stewart, she filed on an ad jacent claim. During the next four years she married Stewart, bore four children and “proved up” on her homestead. In Letters of a Woman Homesteader, Elinore describes her daily chores, her horseback rides through the country, and the people she meets.
