ABSTRACT

Anna married a Baptist missionary pastor in 1911 and left her family's home in Pennsylvania. Two years later she and her husband filed on a claim near White River in Mellette County, South Dakota. Anna, with her five-month old daughter Dorothy, moved onto the claim. They lived there for 14 months, the time required to establish residency and “prove up” Her brother-in-law George and his wife Ruth lived on the adjoining homestead.
