ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the attitudes and behaviors surrounding the storage and management of stuff in domestic spaces. It explains about where people store their love letters and what that may say about those letters' meaning to their possessors. The chapter highlights gender differences, noting the significance of romantic love as a gendered experience and connecting gendered and heteronormative love letter curatorial practices back to how the arrangement of stuff in homes matters. Of course, how people individually view privacy in terms of love letter storage may matter as much as, if not more than, the format itself, and it may matter more than their social surroundings and collective messages about whether privacy is valuable or not. Women are socialized to be the preservers of kinship relationships, whether via photo albums, inherited china sets, or love letters that capture a moment in time that matters for a particular family's story.
