ABSTRACT

Despite being developed with codec evaluation in mind, Multi Stimulus test with Hidden Reference and Anchor-style interfaces have been used for many other purposes, including evaluation of mixes. Evaluation of audio involves a combination of hedonic and sensory judgments. Apart from hearing impairments, a post-test survey may also be used to keep track of subject age, gender, nationality, native language, experience with audio or music, and general comments about the experiment. In contrast to separation of sources in multitrack content, there has been little published work on subjective evaluation of the intelligent tools for mixing multitrack audio. D. Matz et al. compared various implementations of an automatic mixing system, where different combinations of autonomous multitrack audio effects were applied, so that one could see the relative importance of each individual tool. One of the most exciting and interesting developments has been perceptual evaluation of complete automatic mixing systems.
