ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate and to compare the ability to process information on biodiversity issues in Indonesia using video and text. Information processing capability was measured using an essay adapted from Marzano which includes four components: identification of information, interpretation of information, relate the information, and use the information. This test was given to 30 students at 10th grade in one of the Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) at Kota Bandung. The results showed that processing the information using video was better than by using text. The average obtained for processing information using video was 3.41 and processing information using text was 3.38 on a scale of 4. It can be concluded that information given using video was more easily understood by students in information processing than that given using text. Using video as a media source of information can help students to imagine the information clearly and convert the information correctly into meaningful information.
