ABSTRACT

This study aimed to analyze the influence of a STEM project-based learning approach on students’ mathematical communication abilities. The research involved 36 students from a vocational high school at Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia. Based on prior mathematical ability, the students were divided into high, medium, and low groups. A set of mathematical communication ability tests was used as an instrument. The results showed that STEM project-based learning provided a significant enhancement of students’ mathematical communication ability. The improvement in mathematical communication ability of students who had high prior mathematical ability was significantly better than that of students who were in the medium and low groups, where the impact was not significant.
