ABSTRACT

Shendong mining area is one of the major coal production centers in China, belonging to the arid and semi-arid desert mine area. In order to seek the harmonious development of Northern Shaanxi Province and make up the impacts of modern coal mining on land desertification and geology environment at the junction of desert and loess in the north of Shaanxi Province, this paper use MODIS NDVI data, dynamic analysis the changes of vegetation cover in 2000–2014, the results indicated that vegetation coverage in North of Shaanxi Province area showed an overall increasing trend in 15a, most of the surface vegetation coverage has improved, the degree of desertification declined, very severe desertification area and severe desertification area had dropped from 59.81% to 28.28%. The fragile ecological environment and arid climate are main natural driving fact for land desertization, while underground mining activities are also a noticeable factor.
