ABSTRACT

The numerical method called FEM23, presented in this paper, is applied for heat conduction in a multilayered shell structure. The FEM23 applies planar two-dimensional (2D) finite element mesh, although a full three-dimensional (3D) analysis is performed. A 2D reference square domain is used for the mesh to be generated. All the derivatives and integrals are described on the reference domain. A special 3D spatial approximation is prepared on the 2D mesh. A special mathematical transformation is used in FEM23 that links the reference domain with the real shell geometry. The FEM23 is able to analyse a laminated structure with thin as well as with thick layers.
