ABSTRACT

This chapter is an effort to respond to the common question: “What’s the best sequence of yoga poses for trauma?” “It depends” is always the answer, and the variety of both symptoms and needs that clients present is what keeps this work complex and fascinating. This truth is challenging and demands that we continually deepen our understandings of yoga, mental health, our clients, and ourselves. Outside of methods with structured, scripted sequences, there is no one right way to teach a class. This chapter outlines core concepts and explains what to look for and how to respond to the needs of students as they arise.
