ABSTRACT
Inclusive commons and success is not a paradox. Growing exclusiveness was a dominant trend in densely populated and urbanised regions, but was not a requirement for ecological resilience, a fair distribution of benefits and the survival of communal property. The Campine area maintained highly successful commons for centuries, because of the inclusive CPI’s that fostered strong collective action and sustainable management.
