ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 summarizes some of the main points of the volume and includes suggestions for ensuring World Music Pedagogy’s impact, validating and shaping identity through music, with attention to how music is cultural knowledge, how musicking is a means to awareness and understanding that is ethnocultural and intercultural. Ethnomusicological concepts such as authenticity, transmission, and transculturation (including fusion and musical mixes) are addressed in this chapter. The chapter also illustrates strategies for successful implementation, including a specific example of how to plan lessons that incorporate all of the dimensions of World Music Pedagogy, including Attentive Listening, Enactive Listening, Engaged Listening, Creating World Music, and Integrating World Music.
