ABSTRACT

The third chapter is dedicated entirely to conceptualising professional associations. Much work has been done in this area, but extracting those elements that are relevant to a traditional, elite profession with an unusual structure requires in-depth analysis. The analytical framework benefits from this exploration, as it allows elements from various theories of professional association action to be woven together to take into account the highly unusual nature of the Bar. In concluding the chapter, insights from various existing theories are applied to the Inns of Court, particularly Inner Temple, the case study.
