ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses how the Hillsborough disaster can be a lens with which to view the transformative changes in the public understanding of British civic and media institutions. Drawing on a critical analysis of a number of documentary films, the chapter tracks the changing narrative of Hillsborough and draws attention to the work of critical sociologists. The chapter outlines how these films signpost the changes in the campaign for justice and some transformations in narrative practice. The chapter concludes with an assessment of how archival remixes can fuse journalism and investigative sociology to provide critical insights into social interventions.
