ABSTRACT

This book explores the challenges of global ageing. Unprecedented demographic changes are taking place. Age transitions will have a specific impact on individuals, families and communities. They will also shape the texture of social life in the world. The chapters in this book consider the factors that mold health and well-being in later life. The contributors, who work in 15 different countries, have produced chapters that present an overview of the social practices and policies that promote a healthy aging experience. In so doing, the authors describe how successful ageing programs function in their countries. This cross-cultural perspective offers important insights into the ageing process and its challenges, insights that will inform policy makers as they contemplate healthy aging policy decisions.
