ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a roadmap for a performance management transformation project. It includes practical advice on planning the project and building an effective project plan. A key component of the project should be to collect data from internal and external sources on how well the performance management approach currently works and how it compares to findings from research. Analyzing these results informs the performance management redesign. A design document that defines the purpose of performance management and its guiding principles in the organization is invaluable in ensuring the right components are included. The design document can then be presented for executive approval. Throughout the chapter, a major emphasis is placed on involving the right stakeholders throughout the project to secure their buy-in and support.
