ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at judicial review cases where patients have challenged the health-care decisions within the National Health Service (NHS). Health Education England makes sure the healthcare workforce has the right skills and training to improve the care patients receive. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency makes sure that medicines and medical devices work and are safe to use. The National Health Service, established in 1946, provides a comprehensive healthcare system which is free at the point of delivery. Public Health England provides national leadership and expert services to support public health and works with local government, the NHS and other key partners to respond to health protection emergencies. The UK is committed under international law to the promotion of its citizens' health and the prevention of disease. The NHS provides a comprehensive service, available to all irrespective of gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion, belief, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity or marital or civil partnership status.
