ABSTRACT
Candide and Cunegonde decide to get married. They aren’t singing about their romance or love for each other, but instead on the tasks they’ll be able to accomplish like chopping wood and working in the garden. Marriage historically has been viewed, at least in part, as an economic arrangement. This includes Kings and Queens marrying off their children to maintain power. 1
