ABSTRACT
THIS CHAPTER DESCRIBES THE background to storywork, and my ownparticular philosophy of ‘Nature – Theatre – Play’. We considerchildren’s rights to their own art and culture, which are now enshrined in law. I emphasise the importance of the balance between our
concerns and the resources available, and suggest ways in which we can
monitor this balance, both for ourselves and the child. The importance of
social play as well as personal play is suggested as an integrated approach.
