ABSTRACT

The aim of the sessions for Year 6 pupils is not only to build upon their existing knowledge and understanding, but also to encourage them to ask questions, challenge stigma and develop better coping strategies for their own mental and emotional wellbeing. Children who are troubled cannot flourish. Pupils are encouraged to explore the subject of mental ill health in much more detail themselves and their findings to the rest of the class. This chapter aims to extend their knowledge and understanding of specific conditions. It describes positive psychology, sometimes referred to as the 'happiness' programme. The chapter highlights how all possess strengths and even when a day does not seem to be going well there are always some positive aspects to it and someone just need to train mind to find them.
