ABSTRACT

Eighty-four healthy control participants were recruited, aged between 27 and 89 years. All were living in the community. They were recruited from Luncheon Clubs, and a hospital in south-west England, and the test was administered either at the hospital or at home, wherever was most convenient for them. Three experienced Speech & Language Therapists administered the test after receiving training and supervision. All persons completed the BNVR test. A smaller number of under 65-year-olds and over 85-year-olds was recruited to reflect the distribution of patients with CVA in these age bands. Performance below the fifth centile is considered as falling below the normal range. This showed that 95 per cent of participants scored eight or more on the BNVR test.
