ABSTRACT

In order to determine the test-retest and inter-rater reliability of the BNVR participants were recruited ranging in age from 39-90 years. Twenty-seven participants were recruited for test-retest reliability. Test-retest reliability participants were tested and then retested between 1 day and one week apart, always in the morning. Those in the acute stage, that is less than six months after stroke, were always seen for both testing visits within 24 hours. Up to seven days were allowed for those patients with more stable conditions. To determine if there was any relationship between patients' problem-solving difficulties as measured by the BNVR and other standardised tests widely used by Speech & Language Therapists to assess language difficulties in aphasia, two other assessments were administered to a sample of 58 patients with acute CVA. The Pyramids and Palm Trees test, was chosen because it is also non-verbal and conceptual in nature.
