ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a discussion of some of the principles underlying the therapeutic interventions offered, with a particular focus on groupwork. It describes the centre’s approach to collaborative goal planning and evaluation – processes which are fundamental and will be revisited a number of times throughout this text. Working within a group setting, the principles of goal setting are largely the same as those described for individual clients. Again, it is necessary to identify the key issues, agree explicit goals and summarise the steps to be taken towards achieving the goals. The chapter shows how goal planning can represent a flexible and important component of user-centred evaluation tools. Since the primary focus of the goal plan is the identification of individual concerns that the therapy is intended to reduce, it makes sense that the evaluation of their perception of problems forms a vital part of evaluation of the therapy.
