ABSTRACT

We report the results of a multimethod research investigation in Qatar and the UAE. This design includes a four-part approach. First, is a multiyear survey of mobile Internet users in Qatar and the UAE to assess their engagement – and the experiences associated with that engagement – with content on mobile media apps. Second is a series of in-depth case studies of innovative media organizations in Qatar and the Gulf region to identify their adoption of content innovation strategies for mobile media. Third is a test, in an experimental design, of content innovation strategies currently in use or under development by the media organizations featured in stage two of this research. Fourth, we outline curricular tools and resources based on the findings of this research to provide training for the next generation of mobile media content innovators.

The structure and features of this chapter include an introduction and a discussion of the multimethod research design this book rests upon.
