ABSTRACT

The activity organiser should get a sense of the effectiveness of the activity programme through the attendance and participation levels of residents. If residents are not coming along to activities, or alternatively if a room is consistently full, then this gives some indication as to how much the residents are enjoying that particular activity. On occasion, however, it may be useful to review the activity-based documentation. Many activity organisers find it difficult to justify spending time on documentation and record-keeping, preferring to spend as much time as possible with the residents providing group activities. While this is an admirable position, without effective documentation activity organisers and other staff will find it difficult to accurately review the standards of activity provision. Documenting on a daily basis what the resident has participated in, and any feedback or response, can also lead to repetitive information, which has little use or value.
