ABSTRACT

The test manager has assured everyone that the team is ready to proceed when the test environment is up. The release manager finishes migrating the software and gives everyone the thumbs up to proceed. The first tester logs in and receives an access violation error message. Many other errors and delays occur because of erroneous data in the databases and the data in the scripts. At critical times during testing, the test manager doesn’t refresh the databases correctly and tests are rerun. During a project retrospective, management points out that in spite of testing having its test scripts prepared and ready to go, other factors outside its direct control impeded progress. Testing did a relatively good job of managing test risks but needed to step back and team up with the project manager to help manage risks to the project as a whole.
