ABSTRACT

Psychoeducational groups for adults are very varied ranging from those that can be categorized as having a strong educational focus to groups that are similar in important ways to counseling groups. Chapter 13 describes the major considerations when facilitating adult groups as well as how the cognitive and affective needs for these groups will differ based on the setting for the group, such as in agencies and for college counseling centers. The chapter focuses on psychoeducational groups that are educational, or task, or skill oriented, as the next chapter presents the material for organizing and facilitating groups focused on medical illnesses and emotional disturbances. Task groups in work settings, such as meetings and task forces are described, and an example for organizing and facilitating a meeting is presented.
