ABSTRACT

Leaders who are focused on building trust with others recognize the importance of communication skills. Leaders must consider the variety of tools available for communication. Certainly, today's immediate communication tools have the capacity for improving communication in many ways, as these methods can be quick and convenient. These newer modes can improve access to information by reaching a greater number of people. Even with technology, face-to-face interactions remain the most effective way to communicate. Perhaps the most important aspect of good communication is being a caring listener. Leaders build trust when they listen to understand, not to be understood. These six Ws of wise communication, when they are followed, can result in building trust through effective communication: What you communicate, why you communicate, to whom you communicate, the way you communicate, where you communicate and when you communicate. Leaders who build trust with their communication skills understand the importance of knowing when to communicate with others.
