ABSTRACT

Chances are, developing trust is not a strategy people have heard discussed much in their professional work. In fact, the quality of trust is not something that they even think too much about, except when it is missing. Building trust and boosting the trust level are complex processes and require time. Sometimes, the development of trust happens naturally, but more often the conditions in our schools make trust less likely to happen. Trust is something people all know about already. Discerning trustworthy behaviors in others is an interpersonal skill; it is part of people's emotional intelligence. Like their other intelligences, their abilities to discern trust will vary. The perfect time to talk about trust is when trust is forming and developing, such as at the beginning of a new year, when new leadership is introduced, or a new group of students arrives. Because developing trust in an organization is an ongoing process involving relationships among the individuals.
