ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explores the philosophical framework that influences her understanding of learning, and in doing so reveals the essential paradigmatic position. She considers that there is a gap between conventional educational paradigms and the education people may need to advocate for the 21st century, by exploring different worldviews and related educational paradigms. In the traditional educational paradigm, coaching may be essentially corrective: set the author straight, help us out and fix people learning problems. She reflects and reinforces her engagement with philosophical thinking of learning in the age of paradigmatic shift in education, integrating a participatory worldview, systems thinking and complexity theory. Ontology refers to a branch of philosophy concerned with articulating the nature and structure of the world. A particular research methodology incorporates a particular educational philosophy. In any educational research involving learning, some of the important data to be examined are subjective inner experiences.
