ABSTRACT
This book has examined the effects of foreign aid on state building in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2009 against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s history since 1747. It has explored theories of state building and revenue as well as Afghanistan’s post-9/11 developments, including the rebuilding of an aid-based rentier state, the development of the taxation system, budget spending and transparency, and state–society relations.
