ABSTRACT

A 'Managing Stress' workshop for teachers was included in the annual Zone Conference 2005. In November 2005 nine primary school teachers and two secondary school teachers took part in this first small action research project. Teachers noted that listening to the CD had a calming effect which improved general behaviour. Children were more relaxed and 'ready' to learn. The CD helped to develop and enhance children's social and emotional aspects of learning, and offered a range of ways for children to understand and deal with their feelings on many different levels. Many teachers discovered that the CD provided a unique stimulus for meta-cognitive discussion and that pupils were interested in what they feel and the effect their breathing has on their minds and bodies. The success of the 'Stillpoints' for Children CD was designed for teachers with teachers and many children had the opportunity to experience it in the classroom.
