ABSTRACT

Helping the other children to understand The children for whom this book is written are often seen as very different by the rest of the children in their class and in the rest of the school or neighbourhood. There is a very strong herd instinct to be just like everyone else. Children who do not share this are instinctively perceived as ‘other’. For many, this gives rise to teasing and bullying. The majority are very tolerant and care for the oddballs in their midst but they often don’t know what to do to include the child. So they take the path of least resistance and unknowingly exclude him. The alternative requires a bit of an effort. As adults, we often do this too.
